Alpha Release Notes
Follow operator-facing changes, compatibility notes, and release-specific validation guidance.
Each Alpha release should identify the desktop build, hosted viewer build, backend compatibility notes, and important changes before you update an event machine.
0.1.0-alpha.17: More reliable verified installer delivery (August 30, 2026)
This release improves the reliability of verified installer delivery for invited Devant Alpha participants. macOS installers remain signed and notarized, while invited Windows Alpha installers include clear guidance for the standard publisher notice.
Installing an update remains your choice. Save your project and choose a time outside rehearsal or a live event; Devant does not download, install, or reopen itself automatically.
- Use 0.1.0-alpha.11 or later before updating to this build.
- Review the installer guidance for your platform before starting the download.
- Save your project and stop playback before installing any update.
0.1.0-alpha.16: Verified Alpha installer delivery (August 29, 2026)
This release prepares verified installer delivery for the first invited Devant Alpha. macOS installers are signed and notarized, while invited Windows Alpha installers include clear guidance for the standard Windows publisher notice.
0.1.0-alpha.15: More reliable hosted Viewer joins (August 29, 2026)
This release improves hosted Viewer joining after a browser or network session is interrupted. Stale Viewer sessions are cleared before a new viewer joins, so an abandoned browser connection is less likely to leave the room stuck.
If room access still cannot be refreshed automatically, the Viewer now stops retrying and shows a clear recovery message. Refresh Viewer access from the desktop app, then reopen the Viewer on the intended device.
- Use 0.1.0-alpha.11 or later before updating to this build.
- Before a rehearsal or event, open the Viewer on the device and network you intend to use and confirm it joins the room normally.
- Save your project and stop playback before installing any update.
0.1.0-alpha.14: More reliable Viewer access (August 29, 2026)
This release improves reliable access to the hosted Viewer from the current published release. Published desktop builds also keep developer-only testing controls out of the normal operator interface.
When Devant offers this update, review the release notes and choose a safe time to download and install it. The update remains a deliberate action and will not interrupt playback.
- Use 0.1.0-alpha.11 or later before updating to this build.
- Before a rehearsal or event, open the Viewer on the device and network you intend to use and confirm it loads normally.
- Save your project and stop playback before installing any update.
0.1.0-alpha.13: More reliable Viewer delivery and compatible updates (August 29, 2026)
This release improves delivery reliability for the hosted Viewer and carries forward compatibility safeguards for future Alpha updates. It was validated as an update from Devant 0.1.0-alpha.11 on both macOS and Windows.
When Devant offers this update, review the release notes and choose a safe time to download and install it. The update remains a deliberate action and will not interrupt playback.
- Use 0.1.0-alpha.11 or later before updating to this build.
- Before a live event, open the Viewer on the device and network you intend to use and confirm it loads normally.
- Save your project and stop playback before installing any update.
0.1.0-alpha.12: Viewer delivery and compatibility validation (August 27, 2026)
This staging-validation release established the Viewer delivery reliability and compatibility safeguards carried forward in Alpha.13. It confirmed that the current Alpha update path remains compatible with the immediately prior Alpha desktop release.
Alpha.13 is the newer build for ongoing Alpha testing. Keep Alpha.12 in the release history so its validation work is clear when reviewing the progression from Alpha.11.
- If a test machine is still on 0.1.0-alpha.11, use the current Alpha installer when you are ready to update.
- Review Viewer access before relying on it for a rehearsal or event.
0.1.0-alpha.11: Safer Recital controls and clearer updates (August 24, 2026)
During Recital mode, Devant no longer shows the delete control in each track row, helping prevent accidental setlist changes while you are live. Viewer PIN entry now preserves leading zeroes and uses a more natural numeric input.
When you choose to download a desktop update, Devant now shows download progress so you can see that the verified installer is still arriving. Save your project and wait for playback to stop before choosing a safe time to install.
- Make any setlist changes in Edit mode before entering Recital mode.
- Keep Devant open while an update downloads, then install only when playback has stopped and the event is at a safe pause point.
0.1.0-alpha.10: More reliable Viewer connections (August 22, 2026)
This release improves Viewer reliability for both local and cloud connections. On Windows, Local Offline Only Viewer startup and image delivery now work correctly. Cloud Viewer connections now identify their preparation, sign-in, and room-join stages instead of staying indefinitely on Negotiating....
If room access cannot be confirmed, the Viewer now reports a clear timeout and recovery status. This is especially helpful on mobile browsers, where a failed connection is now surfaced quickly instead of appearing to freeze.
- Before a live event, open the Viewer from the intended device and confirm that it reaches the room status screen.
- If the Viewer reports a connection timeout, verify the room is active and its access details are correct before trying again.
0.1.0-alpha.9: Windows installer cleanup correction (August 20, 2026)
This controlled Windows staging build corrects the NSIS installer cleanup handoff used during installation and removal. The installer now starts the uninstaller once and waits for its temporary-copy handoff to complete.
This build remains for approved private Windows testing. The staging installer is unsigned and should be used only on a controlled test machine, not an event machine.
- Test installation and removal on a controlled Windows machine before relying on a later Windows release.
- Keep a known working installer available while evaluating staging builds.
0.1.0-alpha.8: Windows x64 private staging installer (August 19, 2026)
This release makes Windows x64 staging installers available for approved private testing. It establishes the controlled Windows installer path alongside the existing desktop release process.
The staging installer is unsigned. Use it only on a controlled Windows test machine and do not treat it as a public or live-event release.
- Record the Windows version and installation result during private testing.
- Do not update an event machine with an unsigned staging installer.
0.1.0-alpha.7: Easier update notices and installation (August 2026)
This staging build checks for a compatible update shortly after you sign in and open the main Devant window. If an update is available for your account, Devant shows a banner even while you are working. The banner does not download or install anything by itself.
After you choose to download an update, Devant verifies the installer before it is ready. When it is safe to update, choose Install and Quit. Devant opens the verified installer and closes. On macOS, drag Devant to Applications, replace the older copy, then open Devant again.
- Requires macOS 13 or later for the universal macOS installer.
- Save your project and stop playback before choosing Install and Quit. The button stays unavailable during playback, Recital mode, or unsaved project work.
- Selecting Later pauses the reminder for 24 hours for that same update.
0.1.0-alpha.6: Clearer sign-in and sign-up feedback (August 16, 2026)
This release improves credential autofill across Devant sign-in surfaces, making it easier to use saved account details without changing the sign-in flow.
When account creation cannot continue because of the current sign-up policy, Devant now shows the policy feedback immediately so you can understand what needs to happen next.
- Use the account invitation and sign-in details issued for the current Alpha environment.
- If account creation is unavailable, review the message before retrying instead of assuming that the app has frozen.
0.1.0-alpha.5: More dependable account sessions (August 14, 2026)
This release keeps a signed-in desktop session active while Devant refreshes entitlement information. Routine access checks no longer interrupt the normal desktop session.
It also adds the staff-side release controls needed to review release state and guide a staged update workflow with verified, auditable actions.
- After a sign-in or account-access change, allow Devant to finish refreshing before starting a live session.
- Report an unexpected sign-out with a support package so the account and session history can be reviewed.
0.1.0-alpha.4: Update awareness (August 2026)
This staging build adds non-blocking update awareness for signed-in users. When a compatible update is available, Devant shows a banner and a Settings badge so you can decide when to act.
You can review verified release notes, choose Download and Install, or select Later to defer the reminder for 24 hours. Devant never downloads, installs, or relaunches itself automatically, and the reminder will not interrupt playback.
- Requires macOS 13 or later for the universal macOS installer.
- Review the release notes and choose a safe time to update; do not begin an update during a live performance.
- The update banner appears only after Devant verifies a compatible signed release for the signed-in account.
0.1.0-alpha.3: Verified manual updates (August 2026)
This staging build adds a manual update workflow in Settings > Updates. Devant checks for a compatible newer release only while you are signed in, shows signed release notes before download, and lets you choose when to download and install.
Installer downloads remain protected by your authenticated account. Before Devant offers the completed installer, it verifies the expected file size and SHA-256 checksum. The app never silently downloads, installs, or relaunches itself.
- Requires macOS 13 or later for the universal macOS installer.
- Use Check for updates before a rehearsal or event; do not begin an update during a live performance.
- Existing 0.1.0-alpha.2 installers predate signed release-note evidence. If they report that update availability cannot be confirmed, install this release from the verified download link once rather than treating it as an application failure.
How to read a release note
Release notes will distinguish operator-visible changes, fixed issues, known limitations, and compatibility requirements. Review them before updating a machine used for a live event.
Release evidence
- Desktop version and build identity.
- Hosted viewer version or deploy identity.
- Backend migration or compatibility note when applicable.
